Thought from July 7, 2011

Posted: Thursday, July 07, 2011
With PJ’s approval I am excited to write a “PJ Thought” from The PJ Aldridge Foundation…. (Up to the minute update, I guess)

We wrote a check for $150,000 to Dr. Edelman’s Thoracic Cancer Research at University of MD.  It was an achieving moment. We had the big PJAF check, and my hands were shaking so much I had to have a friend write it out.  As I was writing the “small” check that actually gets deposited in the bank, I looked at PJ and said, “Wait, you sign this!” He did with a huge smile.  (I need to see if the bank will give me that check back so I can frame it!)  Without ALL of you, PJAF would have never been able to do that.  I won’t and can’t even begin to list the names that made it happen.  But, with sincerity, we are so grateful.

Kim from Lighthouse Sound has a Concert on the Green planned July 28th with The Chest Pains as the band performing. We are hopeful to PACK the house to thank everyone that has supported PJAF. PJ will delivery his profound, humbling speech.  Funny, there, when we started PJAF a year ago, one thing PJ said to me, “V, I will do whatever we need to do, but please don’t make me public speak.”  Have you heard him speak?  He speaks from the heart and is better than the most experienced public speaker!

I got a call from Robert Graham today; Anita is the marketing wiz for R.G.  She asked for a paragraph about PJ for a press release.  The press release is about Robert Graham and The Club (store in Monterey Bay, CA) partnering and supporting The PJ Aldridge Foundation. This is HUGE, HUGE! Awareness of the highest diagnosed cancer, with the least amount of funding and The PJ Aldridge Foundation on the WEST COAST!  The Robert Graham team is unreal and a perfect match.  Their values/ belief of:  Knowledge-Wisdom-Truth can be defined in many ways, but I believe it matches ours:  Passion makes anything happen. Attitude is half the battle.

The raffle is online from all the grand things PJ received from Oprah’s last episode of Favorite Things in November. Drawing is August 31st, 2011.  One lucky winner wins it all and oh, yes, your taxes too!  All proceeds to research and awareness.  Thank you for supporting it, talking about it, pushing it out, it really does make an impact and difference.  I tell PJ, if I had half the friends he did, I’d be really doing something!  The power of love and passionate people are making this happen. Thanks for being on the Aldridge Squad.

I could write a few more paragraphs, but our video and media support people tell us to keep it short and sweet! So, I’ll end with a word…. MOJO.  (Keep it coming, it WORKS!!!!)

Thank you.  V.

Thought for June 13th

Posted: Tuesday, June 14, 2011

PJ here…. My week has been so great, well, every week is great. The support and love from all makes each day so special to me. Wednesday I was in NY with the Robert Graham team, what they are planning for PJAF is overwhelming and I feel so lucky and blessed. Anita, Robert and all – Thank you. I love you, you are truly wonderful.
PJAF is going to CA in late July early August to be apart of the grand opening of the Robert Graham store in Venice, CA, where a portion of proceeds will be donated to PJAF. But, they are giving us such a big gift. PJAF on the West Coast. It will help build our foundation to a much higher level. We are so thankful.
We present our first check to Dr. Edelman’s research of lung cancer on June 17th. 150,000! PJAF is so appreciative to ALL that has made this possible!

Were asked, where does the money go?

From Dr. Martin Edelman…

“The donations from PJAF will be utilized to further translational research in lung cancer. Our program is focused on the rapid translation of science into clinical trials. Specifically, we will employ these funds to perform laboratory studies of novel therapeutics in preparation for clinical trials as well as analysis of specimens from ongoing studies. These studies allow us to optimize new drug combinations for dose and sequence as well as to refine pharmacodynamic assays and determine whether there are specific groups of patients who may benefit from a new approach. In addition, we will be able to purchase needed equipment, such as that for the detection of circulating tumor cells. PJAF’s donations will significantly advance efforts at the UMGCC to provide new treatments and approaches for patients with lung cancer.” Dr. Martin Edelman, Professor of Medicine, University of Maryland School of Medicine & Director of Solid Tumor Oncology Greenebaum Cancer Center.

Thank you all. I love you so very much. You make me fight. Without you, PJAF wouldn’t be here. PJAF is so important to me in helping others, so thank you, thank you, thank you. God bless you. Till next time.

Sincerely,
PJ

PJ's Thought for May

Posted: Thursday, May 19, 2011
I am so very blessed.  I know I say it over and over, but I am.  We have been doing all sorts of things.  In April, Westside Intermediate School held a PJ’s for PJ Day.  I was able to visit the kids during lunch to thank them for raising awareness and talk to them about the importance of a positive attitude, thank you Dawn for arranging and everyone at the school.  We attended the National Lung Cancer Partnership summit in Denver, CO.  Thank you to the entire team...Read Post

PJ's Thought 4/15/11 - We Launched the Raffle!

Posted: Friday, April 15, 2011
We did it. We launched what we hope to be something big that ultimately will help in the ugly world of lung cancer. ALL of Oprah’s Favorite Things I received back in November are now open for ANYONE to win. 20.00 a raffle or 6 for 100.00. Were paying the winners taxes too. Oprah paid ours, we are paying it forward. Isn’t that what it’s all about? Paying it forward? Give is my favorite word. Always has been (even before I was diagnosed with lung cancer). I can’t wait to be part of...Read Post

Thought for March 28, 2011

Saying I'm lucky, fortunate and blessed again. I know it seems odd. There's nothing lucky about lung cancer, but what is happening to me and others with lung cancer is. I always fear when I write a PJ's Thoughts is that I will leave something out. Please know ever prayer, gesture, hug, positive thought for me truly helps me continue to push myself.Wonderful things continue to happen, I am grateful, thankful and love you for it. Lauren Barrett, a 10 year old in the area recently had a...Read Post

Thought for March 1st!

Posted: Tuesday, March 01, 2011
My doctor appointment with Dr. Edelman was this past Tuesday. All scans and tests remain clear. I'm so very fortunate, I'm living life so differently, everyday is a gift. Every doctors appointment makes me somewhat anxious, I play the "what if" game. But, I'm constantly reminded by all that love me to stay positive. 50% is attitude. My friends and family provide so much positive "mojo" for me. So, so, so thankful. Friday was also special, one of the best days ever. Bryan Russo, and the band...Read Post

Thought for 2/17/2011

Posted: Thursday, February 17, 2011
I celebrated my one year mark. Not sure if celebrate is really the right word? I was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer February 10th 2010. I was told I had 3 months to live. I told the doctor, “Doc, We’ve got to work something out, that’s not going to work for me.” One year later, here I am. I am so blessed to have the friends and family that I have, I really can’t put the words together to describe what all have done for me. I love you all and thank you so, so, so much. This...Read Post
